Founded in January 2018, ActivateHer provides sporting opportunities to girls between the age of 3 and 14 in under-served communities around Cape Town, South Africa. Using the power of sports, ActivateHer translates what is played on the field or the court into continued learning about physical health, life skills, and English comprehension.
A world where all girls have the power to play.
ActivateHer focuses on promoting physical health, body positivity, life skills
and empowerment through physical activity in young girls by first and
foremost getting them active. Rather than mastering a sport, what is more
important in ActivateHer is providing opportunities for girls to learn about
themselves and their abilities.
ActivateHer uses local young women from within ActivateHer girls’ communities
to coach sessions. As coaches, mentors and teachers these young women are
positive role models that ActivateHer girls can relate with. This coaching role
within ActivateHer seeks to create employment opportunities, work experience,
and skills development to local young women who are currently locked out of
formal employment structures or are supporting themselves through higher
education.
